The bobsleigh run
The natural ice course at the Olympia bobsleigh run is rebuilt each year from scratch. Although each corner on the course is precisely levelled out, it still takes more than a dozen specialised experts from South Tyrol to “magic” a slope out of 15,000 m3 of snow and 10,000 m3 of water every year.
The group of experts are reminiscent of a serpent as they set about constructing the track from the surrounding snow or, if necessary, from artificial snow. The procedure is coordinated precisely – starting at Sunny in the direction of the Horse Shoe, the construction work then focuses on the stretch leading to Bridge Corner. The next stage to be built is the Horse Shoe, which is followed by the completion of the finish line area. Work on the uppermost section of the bobsleigh run is started right at the end. The process begins at the end of November and takes around three weeks. No chemical substances are used whatsoever, making the Olympia bobsleigh run in Engadin the most environmentally friendly in the world.
